FAYETTEVILLE — Clarence Curtis Whitfield, 79, of Fayetteville died Jan. 12, 2007, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born April 27, 1927, in Mangum, Okla., to L.M. and Beulah Gentry Whitfield.
He was a member of Thomas Lakeview Baptist Church and was an Army veteran. He worked as a mechanic for Montgomery Ward for 20 years and worked in the janitorial department for Malco theaters for 20 years. He enjoyed reading and gardening. He was preceded in death by one son, Curtis Whitfield, in 1997.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Whitfield of the home; one daughter, Debbie Doss of Fayetteville; three brothers, Lawrence Whitfield of Springdale, Robert Whitfield of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Carter Whitfield of Inola, Okla.; two sisters, Virginia Sparkman of Siloam Springs and Norma Jean Crawford of Springdale; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Home in Springdale, online at www.memfuneral.com. Dale Shepardson will officiate. Burial will follow in White Oak Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Darwin Newby, Chalen Newby, Jeremy Doss, Matt DuFour, Irving Scarbrough and Harold Stacks.
Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Ferguson, Mike Ferguson, Robert Whitfield, Dale Scarbrough, Kendall Whitfield and Ralph Bookout.
