John Nicholas Thompson, 77, of Route 1, Jonesboro, died Sunday at Smith’s Clinic in Trumann at 1 a.m. He was a retired farmer.
A native of Tennessee he moved to the Jonesboro area 11 years ago from Trumann. He was a Methodist.
He is survived by his widow, Bertha Thompson; two sons, Herbert Thompson of Peoria, Ill., and Fred Thompson, Route 1, Jonesboro; a daughter, Mrs. Wilma Wells of Trumann; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Eason of Brookland; three brothers, George Thompson of Kennett, Mo., Hugh Thompson of West Memphis and Elisha Thompson of Jonesboro and four grandchildren.
Services were at 2 p.m. today at the Gregg Funeral Home and Rev. Willie Clem and Rev. Gus Cox officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Gregg in charge.
Pallbearers were Charlie Hicks, Woodrow Barnett, Jack Hitchock, George Peck, George Bradsher and James Everhart.

Mrs. Berta Thompson, 76, of Jonesboro, Route 1, was dead on arrival at St. Bernard’s Hospital Sunday evening at 7:30. She was a housewife and had lived in Jonesboro area her lifetime. She was a Baptist.
Surviving are two sons, Fred Thompson of Jonesboro and Herbert Thompson, Peoria, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs. Wilma Mae Wells, Trumann; one half-brother, Ed Woods, Clarendon; one half-sister, Mrs. Vennie Smith, Harrisburg; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 at Pentecostal Church of God in Trumann. Rev. Gus O. Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Gregg of Jonesboro in charge.
