John L. Lane, Jr. 84, of Conway, Arkansas passed away November 11, 2014. He was born on May 25, 1930, in Guy, Arkansas to the late John L. Lane,Sr. and Martha Henderson Lane.
John was of the Methodist faith and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Conway. He worked as an engineer for Ward Bus Co. and retired after 43 years of service.
John was a U.S. Veteran serving in the Army National Guard for 36 years. He was honored to have had the opportunity to assist Hillary Clinton in entering an armored tank for a tour of Fort Chaffe. He was also grateful to have shaken the hand of President John F. Kennedy at the Greers Ferry dedication. John also played an active role in the desegregation of Central High School in Little Rock.
John loved the outdoors where he spent time hunting and fishing. His favorite hobby and specialty was fishing for catfish in which he was very skilled. John was a loyal customer to the Waffle House on Skyline and enjoyed going there as often as he could. He was also an avid football fan and enjoyed watching the games on television. John enjoyed the sport of bowling and through the years he participated in league tournaments.
John is survived by his wife of 32 years, Janet Lane, three sons; James Lane (Mary) of Irving, Texas, Joel Lane of Conway, and Carl Hartzell of Conway, one daughter; Jackie Moix (Kenneth) of Conway, three grandchildren; Natalie Moix of Durham, North Carolina, Mandy Coburn (Josh) of Keller, Texas, Erica Barton (Ricky) of Frisco, Texas, three great grandchildren; Maci Coburn, Caden Coburn, Lane Barton and one sister; Shirley Lou Yarbrough of Conway.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM Saturday, November 15, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Conway with Rev. Mike Roberts officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Friday, November 14, 2014 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Interment will follow the service at Crestlawn Memorial Park.
