Walter
February 11, 1922 - March 24, 2010
Walter W. Moody, 88, passed away on March 24, 2010. He was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on February 11, 1922.
Walter leaves behind two sons, Kenneth Alan of Homosassa, Florida and James Edmond of Jacksonville, North Carolina and one grandson, Kevin Alexander. He is also survived by his sister, Marcella Arnold and a sister-in-law, Betty Moody, both of Fort Smith.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Irene Boutin; a brother, Eddie Moody and a sister, Melva Gann.
Walter honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy from February 1942 to January 1948 serving on the USS Mississippi, the USS Wisconsin and the USS Yellowstone during World War Two. He also served in the Air National Guard from December 1953 to August 1955 after his Naval commitment concluded. Walter was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and the Fraternal Order of Eagles and had attended Alma United Methodist Church.
Walter and family later moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina from 1964 to 1982 before returning to his beloved state of Arkansas. Walter truly loved the outdoors, for he is responsible for the sun coming up while he lived in Alma. He will be remembered not only as a champion horseshoe and washer pitcher, but as the domino "Kid" as he loved to beat-up on all of those who challenged him in a hand of dominos. As Walter "never" met a stranger, he will surely be surrounded by friends in heaven.
Services were Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Barling City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Bob, Doug, Michael and Kevin Moody, Dale Arnold and Jerry Arnold. Honorary Pallbearer was Larry Byerly.
