Lavenia Alice Simpson, 95, of Evening Shade, Ark., died Jan. 1, 2004, at Woodlawn Nursing Home in Batesville. Born May 4, 1908, near Imboden, she was the daughter of Henry and Sallie May Goad Massey. She was a homemaker and a member of Evening Shade First Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons -- Dale Simpson and Devoe Simpson, both of Batesville, Denzil Simpson of Evening Shade, and Lon C. Simpson of Lakeview; a daughter, Linda Serafin of Troy, Mich.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cletus Simpson; two brothers -- Taylor Massey and Dewan Massey; and two sisters -- Elizabeth Bilbrey and Della Spotts.
The funeral was Jan. 5 at Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Troy Sharp officiating. Burial followed in Lancaster Cemetery at Strawberry with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Pallbearers were Lynn Simpson, Joey Simpson, Mark Fowler, Sherman Dale Simpson, Mike Simpson, Eric Simpson, Chris Simpson, Bruce Simpson, Spencer Simpson, Matthew Simpson and Brian Simpson.

EVENING SHADE -- Lavenia Alice Simpson, 95, of Evening Shade died Thursday, Jan. 1, at the Woodlawn Nursing Home in Batesville.
Born near Imboden, she was a homemaker and a member of the Evening Shade First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Qualls Funeral Home chapel in Cave City, with Troy Sharp officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery in Strawberry.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
