Husband of Peggy Downing
Mr. Ben H. Downing, age 80, of Blytheville passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at his home.
He was born in Blytheville to Otis Aubrey Downing and Flossie Raspberry Downing.
Mr. Downing was a former mechanic for Bob Sullivan Chevrolet, a retired farmer and security guard for K-Mart, and a former deputy for the Mississippi County Sheriffs Department. He was also a member of the American Legion and of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Michael Gene Downing, a sister, Donna Coleman and two brothers, William E. Downing and Joe H. Downing.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Cathey Downing; children, Bruce Downing and wife Kathy of Searcy, Ark., Jimmy Downing and wife Theda of Blytheville, Scott Downing of Blytheville, Ronald Sammons, Donald Sammons, Rose Sammons, all of Manila; brothers, Adran O. Downing and wife Jo of Ft. Worth, Texas, Ronald Kirk Downing and wife Wanda of Blytheville; sisters, Madge Pruitt of Monette, Marilyn Ricard and husband Peter of Blytheville, Shirley Masterson of Blytheville, Pamela Taylor and husband Chris of Powell, Tennessee; several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Friday, August 13, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery with Reverend Robert Duhon officiating and Cobb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
