Melba Garner Killian
Melba Kathryn Garner Killian, daughter of the late Joel Garner and Lela Faye Stroud Townsend, was born April 30, 1927 in San Angelo, Texas. She departed this life December 21, 2013 in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 21 days. After graduating high school, she attended LaVerna Beauty School in Jonesboro. She had a long career as a hairdresser. She was married to Walter Bryan "Dub" Killian from November 24, 1952 until his death on December 13, 2004. She spent her life as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend. She was of the Church of Christ faith and a member of the Calico Rock Church of Christ since the age of nineteen. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law: Kathy and Roger Ducker of Mountain Home and Sherry Killian of Mountain Home; two brothers: Charlie Townsend of Calico Rock and Don Garner (Jacquie) of Lake St. Louis, Missouri; one sister: Sonia Kay Howerton (Harlin) of Ava, Missouri; two grandchildren: Aaron Ducker (Kim) of Henderson and Sarah Rosa (Kevin) of Mountain Home; five great grandchildren: Reece Michael Ducker, Clara Michelle Ducker, Cora Ann Ducker, Jonathan Aiden Setzer, William Brenton Setzer; five brother and sisters-in-law: Earl and Betty Killian of Calico Rock; Bob and Norma Killian of Pineville and Lynn Killian of Louisburg, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews; many cousins and a host of other relatives and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Joel Garner and Lela Fay Stroud Townsend; her husband of 52 years: Walter Bryan "Dub" Killian; one brother: Joseph Gene Garner and her step-father: Hershel Townsend.
Funeral service will be Sunday, December 22, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Calico Rock Church of Christ with Danny Burleson and Dr. Robert Lane officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock. Visitation will be Sunday, December 22 beginning at 12:30.
Pallbearers: Jay Knight, David Sugg, John Thomas, Greg Hamby, Josh Story and Graham Knight.
