Pineville Man Killed in Fall From Greer’s Ferry Dam on Friday
William Earnest “Bill” Killian of Pineville was killed Friday when he lost his balance and plunged from the catwalk on which he was standing 110 feet. It was the first fatality recorded at the project, which is located near Heber Springs.
According to a witness, Mr. Killian was using a wrench to tighten some bolts in the structure and his hands apparently slipped from the handle, causing him to lose his balance. The catwalk was about 30 inches wide, according to reports received here.
Mr. Killian was a well-known Izard County citizen. He was 41 years old.
This was the second accidental death for Izard County with-in two weeks. Carmen Estes of Calico Rock was killed in an automobile accident south of Batesville on Sunday, March 5.
Mr. Killian is survived by his wife, Dorothy; five children, Robert, Sue, Darrell, David and Alma, all of the home; his mother, Mrs. Annie Lackey Killian, Pineville; three brothers, Kirby Killian of Sapulpa, Okla.; Thurman of Vanlege, Wash., and Dale of Fayetteville, Ark.; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Moody, Crossroads and Mrs. Faye Estes of Batesville.
Funeral services were held in the Pineville Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Neil Hudson and Remmel Rowden officiating.
