CARTER, John Wesley - John Wesley Carter, a well known farmer residing southeast of Springdale, died of pneumonia Monday night after an illness of one week. The remains were interred in the cemetery at Friendship Tuesday, services being conducted by Rev. L.L. Johnson, a Baptist minister of Dutch Mills. Deceased was born in Ripley county, Ind. March 14, 1860 and was united in marriage to Maggie Hartley Sept. 13, 1881. He came to this locality in Sept. 1882 and has since resided here. A friend of the deceased hands in the following tribute to his memory: Bro. Carter was converted in August 1883 and united with Friendship church, has been church clerk 24 years. He was devoted to the church, the prayer meeting and the Sunday school, having been perfect in attendance each Sunday during the year except the last Sunday of his life. Deceased leaves a devoted wife, 2 children and an aged mother, 3 grand children and one brother to mourn his death. He will be sadly missed by the whole community, which extend their sympathy to the bereaved family. May the good which Brother Carter did live after him.
