The Baxter Bullitin
January 13, 1977

Emma E. Kafka, 49, a Mt. Home resident and a protestant, died, Wednesday of last week at Baxter General Hospital.
Mrs. Kafka was born Jan 23, 1927, in Forest City, to the late Charles David Denton and the former Lela Crisel. She married Peter G. Kafka, Sr. July 1, 1958. She is survived by her husband of the home; her son, Peter G. Kafka, Jr also of the home; a brother, Jack Denton of Mt. Home; and a sister Mrs. Lucille Shidler of Hughes.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Roller Chapel with Rev. Remil N. Layton officiating. Pallbearers were Louis Knight, Kenneth Jackson, Truman Smith, Leon Cloyd, Odus Duggins and Earle Johnson. Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery, in the Buford community, under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.

(Note:By happenchance, the location of the graves of Emma & Peter Kafka is unusual. When Peter G. Kafka died there was not any family member that could come to the area at that time. Relatives made arrangements by phone for him to be buried by his wife. The funeral home contacted the Sexton of the Fairview Cemetery, and he showed the grave digger the erected tombstone. The grave was dug where the inscription showed his eternal resting place to be. A few months later, a family member visited the cemetery and asked why Mr. Kafka was not buried by Mrs. Kafka. It turned out that for some reason when Mr. Kafka purchased the tombstone he had it placed at the foot of his wife’s grave. As a result, Mrs. Kafka’s grave is west of the marker and Mr. Kafka’s grave is one space south of her grave, but on the east of the tombstone. As a result, it is an almost certainty that no one will ever be buried in the plot immediately south of Mrs. Kafka’s grave or in the plot immediately north of Mr. Kafka’s grave.)
