BLAINE, Ben - Ben Blaine, 46 years old, who had resided in Rogers most of his life, committed suicide Saturday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. L.B. Lutz, by shooting himself through the head with a .22 target rifle. Ill health is given as the probable cause. Since the death of his wife some six years ago Blaine has lived at the home of his sister, Mrs. L.B. Lutz, No. 225 North C street. Two daughters, one 14, the other 18, also made it their home. Saturday afternoon Blaine asked the youngest girl, Jessie, to borrow a .22 target rifle from a neighbor, saying that he wanted to shoot some birds that were eating the chicken feed in the back yard. When he secured the rifle Blaine suggested that the women stay in the house as he was afraid they would scare the birds away. A few minutes later Mrs. Lutz and her niece heard a shot followed by the sound of a falling body on the back porch. They rushed out to find the body of Blaine on the porch and a bullet hole in his left temple. Death was practically instantaneous. An inquest was held by Coroner A.D. Callison and the verdict was that the death was the result of a "Bullet wound, self inflicted." Blaine had been in ill health for some time and it is thought this was the cause of the act. Mr. Blaine's father, one of the oldest residents of Rogers, was killed here several years ago when struck by the southbound morning Frisco passenger train at the Walnut street crossing. Funeral services were held at the Lutz home Sunday afternoon.
