BEMIDJI, Minn. — Marie Bishop, 94, of Bemidji died June 5, 2006, at Neilson Place in Bemidji. She was born Aug. 26, 1911, in Fort Smith to Ray and Pansy M.L. Younger Bishop. She grew up in Arkansas and was a 1930 graduate of Siloam Springs High School.
She graduated from Northeastern State Teachers College in Tahlequah, Okla., with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and biological sciences and minors in mathematics and physical science. She taught at schools in Arkansas and Oklahoma.
In 1949, she earned a master's degree in kindergarten and elementary education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
She retired from Bemidji State University in 1976 with the title of Professor Emertia of Education. She was a member of the Minnesota Education Association, the National Education Association, National Educational Association of Young Children; Minnesota Literacy Council, International Day Care and Child Development Council of America, the American Association of University Women, the League of Women Voters, Business and Professional Women's Club, Bemidji Chapter 171 Order of the Eastern Star, Paul Bunyan Retired Teacher Association and the United Methodist Church.
Services were June 9 at the United Methodist Church in Bemidji with the Rev. Eric Hucke officiating.
Local services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs, online at www.wassonfuneralhome.com.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
