B.F. Pollard, who had been ill for the past few weeks, passed away Saturday morning at nine o'clock at his home on Holcomb Street. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church, South Sunday morning at 10:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. B.M. Burrow, the pastor. The remains were interred in Bluff Cemetery under the auspices of the Masonic lodge of which deceased was a member. Deceased was born in Alabama October 4, 1830 and at an early age came with his parents to Washington County, locating on Clear Creek, southwest of Springdale. August 6, 1850 he was united in marriage to Susan N. Litterel and to them nine children were born, six daughters and three sons, those living being Mrs. Sarah E. Banks and Mrs. Margaret F. Ritter of Springdale; J.T. Pollock of Zena, I.T.; Louisa M. Swartout of Mountain Grove, Mo. and Ben F. Pollock engaged in the drug business with Dr. Hiram Daily, deceased, father of H.A. Daily. Afterwards the stock was divided and both continued business for a while and then Mr. Pollock purchased the furniture business of Geo. W. Lea. With the exception of a short time when F.C. Ritter was a partner with him he has conducted the business alone until a few months ago L.M. Riggs was taken in as a partner and when Mr. Pollock was taken sick a few months ago he disposed of the business to Mr. Riggs. While Mr. Pollock was engaged in the drug business he also for a time conducted the Frisco House, a hotel owned by Joe Holcomb which stood near the site of the Auditorium. Only a few months ago the building was purchased by I.T. Lane and removed and remodeled as a residence, being now occupied by T.W. Berry and family. October 15, 1897 Mr. Pollock lost his wife and in January 1901 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Mary Hale. Herschel Pollock, a little grandson of Mr. Pollock and son of Albert Pollock, deceased, made his home with them, the three constituting the family, the children all being married. Some two months ago Mrs. Pollock died. Mr. Pollock was then in poor health and the blow was so great that he gradually grew worse and was soon forced to take his bed. During his last illness he has been visited by all his surviving children and all were with him when the end came except Mrs. Swartout of Mountain Grove, Mo., and his son, Ben, of Oklahoma, City. A daughter-in-law, Mrs. Georgia Hull of Beacon, Iowa arrived Tuesday night of last week. During his last illness Mr. Pollock realized that the end was at hand and arranged his business accordingly. He selected J.P. Deaver, cashier of the Bank of Springdale, as administrator of his estate and also as guardian of his grandson, Herschel. Herschel will return to Iowa with his mother. Mr. Pollock had from many years been a member of the M.E. Church, South and was a long time member of the Mason fraternity. He had the confidence and respect of all who knew him.
