Allane Smith Thompson, 92 of Junction City died, Sunday January 16, 2011 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House following a lengthy illness. Born April 18, 1918 in Randolph, LA she was the daughter of Seabron Edgar and Zeorbria Etta Raborn Smith. Mrs. Thompson graduated from Junction City public schools in 1936, received a B.S. degree, Masters Degree and 30 hours above a Masters from Louisiana Tech. In September of 1940 she began her teaching career at Vernon in Jackson Parish, Louisiana where she taught two years. She then taught three years at Summerfield, LA and during this time in May of 1944 she married Joe Mitcham Thompson. Later teaching at Junction City and again at Summerfield, she retired after 33 years of employment. Staying retired only three months; she became librarian at Claiborne Academy near Haynesville and remained there 12 years for a total of over 45 years in the education profession. Professionally Mrs. Thompson belonged to the Claiborne Parish Teachers Association, Louisiana Teachers Association and the Arkansas Teachers Association serving as secretary. She belonged to the National Education Association, Fourth District, and the Retired Teachers organization of Claiborne Parish. She served as secretary-treasurer and reporter of the Night Business Womens Extension Club and the Summerfield Home Demonstration Club. She was a one time member of the First Baptist Church of Homer, LA and taught the adult ladies Sunday School Class. She was presently a member of Bethel Baptist Church at Lillie, LA. Preceding her in death along with her parents and husband, Joe M. Thompson were brothers, Isaac Smith and Leon Smith and a sister, Virginia Jennings. Survivors include a son, Howard Thompson of Junction City, a brother, Othar Smith (Mary) of El Dorado, a sister, Dovie Dunn of Shreveport, LA and a brother-in-law W. A. Jennings of Texarkana, AR. Also surviving are grandchildren, Mitch Thompson of Royse City, TX and Jessica Thompson of West Monroe, LA and great-grandchildren, Sydney Thompson and Marlo Thompson both of West Monroe, LA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 19, 2011 in Bethel Baptist Church at Lillie, LA with Rev. Marty Black and Rev. Phillip Farris officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Junction City under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Bethel Baptist Church near Lillie, LA Tuesday, January 18, between 4:00 P. M. and 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to Roselawn Cemetery, P.O.
