When Sarah Martin was born on August 27, 1859, in White, Arkansas, her father, James, was 32, and her mother, Maria, was 26. She married James Luther Whitten on November 24, 1881. They had nine children in 11 years. She died on May 11, 1914, in White, Arkansas, at the age of 54, and was buried in her hometown.
