Roma Jean Shrum, 84, Huntsville, Ark., died July 25, 2006, at her home. She was born Oct. 31, 1921, at Salina, the daughter of John and Jane Edna Egan Holt. She and her husband J. Curtis Shrum founded Big Cabin Telephone Company of Big Cabin in 1951. They sold that company and purchased Madison County Telephone Company in May, 1957. When school was out in June of 1957, they moved their family to Huntsville, Ark., from Pryor. She served as president of Madison County Telephone Company for many years and was vice president and chairman of the board at the time of her death. She attended Bacone College in Muskogee and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Huntsville and a contributor to many charities. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 18, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother J.D. Holt and one sister Joy Callison.
Survivors include two sons, Tom and Mary Shrum, Joe and Claudette Shrum, all of Huntsville, Ark.; two sisters, June Pierce, Locust Grove, Mary Jane Pierce, Salina; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 10 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2006, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with the Rev. James Harris and the Rev. Robbie Pierce officiating. Interment will be in Huntsville Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville, Ark.
