FAYETTEVILLE — Clara Ellen Meenen, 86, of Butterfield Trail Village in Fayetteville, died July 3, 2006. She was born in Wichita, Kan., on Jan. 26, 1920, to Laurence and Helen Brush.
She moved to Fayetteville in 1949, when her husband began employment at the University of Arkansas. She received awards for her community service, including the 1997 Eagle Award presented by the Washington Regional Medical Foundation for "Outstanding Health Care Leadership." In 2004, the Rotary Club of Fayetteville presented her with the "Service Above Self Award." She served on the Board of Directors of Fayetteville City Hospital for 25 years, 15 years as the secretary. She also served on the Hospital Development Board and later was a member of the Washington Regional Medical Foundation. She was a charter member of the City Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the "Attic" Committee where she worked as a volunteer until her death. She was a charter member of the Development Child Care Association.
Survivors include her husband, Henry of the home; two sons, Kent and wife Janie of Siloam Springs, and Dennis of Rogers; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville, online at www.nelsonberna.com, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
A private burial will be held in Rogers. Memorial services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church in Fayetteville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to the Health Care Center of Butterfield Trail Village, 1923 E. Joyce Blvd., Fayetteville 72703.
