SPRINGDALE — Weltha M. Mayes, 95, of Springdale died Nov. 26, 2007, at Fayetteville. She was born Feb. 11, 1912, in Kingston, the daughter of Walter and Zula Gage Griggs. She was a homemaker. She was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Sam H. Mayes, one son, Phillip L. Mayes, one granddaughter, Gabriele A. Mayes Luebke, three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include two sons, Billy J. Mayes and wife Valerie S. of Springdale and James H. Mayes and wife Linda Sue of Springdale; one daughter, Linda K. Hamilton and husband David of Elkins; one daughter-in-law, Martha Mayes of Garfield; four grandsons, Mark Mayes of West Hollywood, Calif, James E. Mayes of Springdale, David Hamilton and Brandon Hamilton, both of Elkins; two granddaughters, Kelli Winn and husband William of Springdale and Poppy Mayes of Lowell; two great-grandsons, Benjamin and Zachary Winn of Springdale; and one great-granddaughter, Katie Winn of Springdale; 14 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale with the Rev. Charles Foster officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Nov. 28, at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Elm Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Hamilton, Brandon Hamilton, James Mayes, William Winn, Zachary Winn and Benjamin Winn.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Mayes and Katie Winn.
