Raymond H. Hower, age 89 of Smithville died Friday, May 22, 2009 at his home. He was born August 2, 1919 at Jeannette, Pennsylvania to Herley and Emma Duncan Hower. He was U. S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II and retired from the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville as a industrial maintenance instructor. He attended the Cornerstone Baptist Church at Mount Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elizabeth Kotz Hower, one brother Robert Hower and two sisters, Emma Swanson and Verna Saderski.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law Mark and Becky Hower of Smithville, two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda J. and Chester W. Scott Jr. of Green Lane, Pennsylvania and Jane A. and Jay Shisler of Souderton, Pennsylvania, nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will begin, Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Bro. Elvis Sneathern officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery located at Jessup with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Visitation will begin Wednesday, May 27, 2009 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Gill, Chris Smith, Dwight Smith, Andrew Wortman, Alvin Wortman and John Higgins.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cornerstone Baptist Church Mission's Program.
