Mrs Mary L. Brooks Dies Suddenly, Thursday

Mrs Mary L. Brooks, aged 75, and the mother of the editor of the Progress, died Thursday night, February 17, two hours after suffering a heart attack. Her sudden passing came as a severe blow to loving members of her family and the host of relatives and friends who knew her through the years as a devoted mother and faithful friend.
Funeral services were held from the Cumberland and Presbyterian Church at Mount Olive at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev Robert A. Robertson, the Methodist pastor of Melbourne. Interment was in the Mount Olive Cemetery.
Mary L. Brooks (nee Jeffery) was born at Mount Olive January 22, 1863 and the early part of her life was spent there. In 1883 she was married to William Watts Brooks and for many years after marriage they resided at Mammoth Spring and Salem. She united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church early in life and remained faithful to the tenets of a Christian till called by her Maker.
Survivors included a daughter, Mrs Pearl Dixon of Mt Olive, five sons, H. C. Brooks of Little Rock, Lawrence of Mt Olive, Neill of Calico Rock, Ralph of Hot Springs, Harry of Detroit; two sisters, Mrs Lou Lancaster of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs Geo. McLean of Hardy and a brother, J. C. Jeffery of Mammoth Spring.
