SPRINGDALE — JoAnn Mary Diercouff, 73, of Springdale passed away Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at the Northwest Medical Center.

JoAnn was born on May 13, 1938, in Gilman, Ill., a daughter of John William Page and Grace Ellen Sims Page. She was the widow of the late Barry Lynn Diercouff. JoAnn moved to Northwest Arkansas in 1974. She went to work for the University of Arkansas in 1975 as a secretary, having worked in Peabody Hall Children's Library, Dept. of DPQA/CISQA and then computing services, retiring after 25 years of employment.

JoAnn lived a very active life, including being a member of the Salem Lutheran Church and School in Springdale, where she taught VBS and confirmation classes, was a member of LWML, the Altar Guild and made many banners for the church. She was an avid seamstress, a Girl Scout leader for Troop 336, was active with literacy and ESL as a teacher and teacher trainer. was a volunteer for many years at Lifestyles in Fayetteville, was a member of Greyhound Pets of America, in which she rescued seven greyhounds and was a advocate for the Precious Moments Chapel. Since 1980, JoAnn had hosted 86 foreign students through the U of A and loved to travel, having traveled around the world visiting the foreign students she had come to love.

She is survived by one son, Brian Diercouff and wife Darlene of Springdale; one daughter, Dawn and husband Michael Gage of Fayetteville; one sister, Phyllis Sorenson of Couer d'Alene, Idaho; two grandchildren, Melissa and Michael Sipes of Greenland and Randall Gage and Becky Roark of Elkins; six great-grandchildren, Dalynn Blake Hatch, Zane Gage, Landon Hatch, Levi Sipes, Lucas Gage and Abby Schexnayder.

Visitation will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Memorial services will be held at the Salem Lutheran Church and School on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Thomas Zehnder and the Rev. Tardeli Voss will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greyhound Pets of America, P.O. Box 6393, Springfield, MO 65808; or to the Salem Lutheran Church and School, 1800 W. Emma, Springdale, AR 72762.
