Lydia Opal Birkes, 87, of Maysville, died Monday, April 19, at Gravette Medical Center. She was born April 1, 1906, a Maysville. A homemaker, she was a lifetime resident of Maysville. She was a charter member of the Maysville Home Demonstration Club and served as a correspondent for newspapers in Southwest City, Mo., Siloam Springs, Gravette and the Benton County Democrat.
Survivors are her husband, James "Rudy" Birkes of Jay, Okla.; three sons, Billy "Pete" Birkes of Chouteau, Okla., Jerry "Chink" Birkes of Kansas City, Mo., James "Jigger" Birkes of Nuevo, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial are set for 2 p.m. today at Maysville Cemetery under direction of Sherman-Schrag Funeral Homes, Jay, Okla.
