JACKSON, Rebecca WILLIAMS - In memory of one of the oldest women in Benton county, this sketch is written. She would have been 90 years old June 22. Rebecca Jackson, nee Williams, was born in Overton Co., Tenn. June 22, 1807; was married to James Jackson in 1823; moved to Arkansas in 1829; settled on Cane Hill, Washington Co.; in 1833 her and her husband settled about three miles west of Bentonville on the Andrew Jackson farm and there she lived 64 years till her death. She suffered for several months from dropsy and died from the same on the 17th of May 1897. She is the mother of 15 children and also raised some of her grandchildren. At the time of her death her eldest grandson, Bedford Woods, was 54 years old. Some of her grandchildren have grandchildren. She has over one hundred grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Only five of her children are living: Andrew Jackson, Albert Jackson, Mrs. Jennie Dudley of Bentonville; Nicholas S. Jackson, Louisa Curtice of Galthwait, Tex. She died in the faith and left a clear and positive testimony for the Saviour. May her last testimony be a blessing to her children and children's children. Her funeral services were conducted by the writer in the beautiful yard at Andrew Jackson's May 18 in the presence of a large crowd of relatives and friends after which her remains were interred in the family burying yard on the farm by the side of her husband who had preceded her 19 years. He too left a testimony of salvation and they are now reunited on the Golden Shore. S.F. Goddard.
