Cora Jones went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, October 15, 2010, after a long, good life on this earth. She was the firstborn of Thomas Patrick Massey and his wife, Minnie Lee Cook Massey. She was born on April 30, 1914, in Doddridge, Arkansas, and passed away on Friday in Atlanta Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
On October 8, 1932, she married Raymond Jones, and they lived forty-five happy years until his death on September 21, 1977. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and cooking, and was lovingly referred to by her family as "Annie Oakley"—known for being a crack shot with her 22 rifle.
Cora is survived by her four children, Charles Ray Jones and his wife, Charlene, Jeanette Pierce and her husband, John, Mary Etta Norton and her husband, Burnice, and Linda Gail Cutshall and her husband, Dennis. She also has been blessed with nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind one brother, Ellis Edward Massey of Texarkana, Texas, and sisters, Willie Stroup of Texarkana, and Mae Gonzales of Rowlett, Texas.
The body will lie in state at Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas, where visitation will be from 4-6 P.M. on Sunday, October 17, 2010. Viewing will also be at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Doddridge, on Monday, October 18, 2010, from 12-1 PM, where funeral services will begin at 1:00 P.M. with the Revs. Gary O'Day and Walter Burnett officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to your church of your favorite charity.
