Ex-city councilman W.L. Billingsley dies
W.L. Billingsley, 80, a former Rogers alderman and retired general manager of the Rogers Vinegar Company, died Wednesday at his home in Rogers.
Born June, 20, 1897, in Palestine, he was a commander of the American Legion and a member of the Rogers Masonic Lodge and the First Christian Church. He served in the Navy during World War I.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Billingsley of the home; two sons, Dr. Audell Billingsley of Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Billy Gene Billingsley of Richardson, Tex., a daughter, Mrs. Loraine Backus of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Bull and Mrs. Eura Beck, both of Rogers; a half-brother, Jess Phillips of Tulsa, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the Callison Funeral Chapel at Rogers with the Rev. Howard Cupp officiating. Burial will be in the Rogers Cemetery.
Memorial funds have been established at the Heart Unit of the Rogers Memorial Hospital and at the First Christian Church.
