Audry Avinell Bonds, age 91, passed from this life to be with the Lord on September 1, 2011, at Ozark Health Nursing Center. “Nell”, as everyone knew her, was a member of the church of Christ. She worshipped with the congregation at Formosa.
Born in Kenton, Tennessee, to Page and Nona (Cantrell) Vinson, she was the oldest of twelve children, five brothers and six sisters. At the age of 4, Nell and her family rode across the Mississippi River on a ferry to Missouri so that her dad could work a job clearing timber for the levy construction. As a young girl, Nell grew up farming and picking cotton and prided herself in her quickness and skill picking cotton.
On November 18, 1934, Nell married her husband, Otus, in Bee Branch, Arkansas.
They began their married life in Missouri, but later moved to Formosa. They farmed the land and later were blessed with a son, Gerald.
In December of 1957, Nell and Otus opened up their family business, Bonds’ Fabric Center in Clinton. Otus and Nell eventually settled at their home in Choctaw where they retired in December of 1977. Nell enjoyed canning, sewing, and loved playing Rook with her friends from church. She and Otus also traveled and went on many vacations together and rarely missed a family reunion. Nell and Otus were married 64 years before his passing in 1998.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Otus Franklin Bonds; her sisters, Mildred Yates, and Mary Beth Vinson, her brothers, Don, Floyd, Buddy, Junior, and Joe Vinson.
She is survived by her son, Gerald Bonds and wife, Dana, one granddaughter, Jan Gage and husband Bill, sisters, Sue Vinson of Finton, Missouri; Ann Attebury of Padukah, Kentucky; Evelyn Stegall and husband Kenny of St. Louis, Missouri; Jean Glasstetter and husband Charlie of Finton, Michigan; and two sisters in law, Billie Stripling of Clinton, and Dortha Lee Cannady of California.
Pallbearers: Randy Stripling, Smitty Bonds, Roy Bryant, Darrell Oliger, Orbin Allen, and James Story.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Monday, September 5, 2011 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Chapel Clinton, Arkansas.
Funeral Service 10:00am Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Formosa Church of Christ with Ray Earnhart officiating. Interment: Hunter Hill Cemetery.
