STRAWBERRY -- Gilbert Black, 94, of Strawberry died Tuesday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Surviving are his wife, Ethel Dragoo Black; daughters Florence Huskey of Strawberry and Carolyn Clinton of Walnut Ridge; sons William Black of Hot Springs, Jack Black of Jacksonville and George Black of Mobile, Ala.; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was a leader in establishing Lawrence County Rural Water District and 911.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday at House-Gregg Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Lancaster Cemetery near Strawberry.

Ethel Frances Black, 88, of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 8, 2006, at Walnut Ridge.

She was a homemaker and had lived in the Smithville area for 63 years. She was a member of Smithville Baptist Church, the Northeast Arkansas Quilt Club, the Anchor Extension Homemakers Club and the Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Black; a sister, two brothers; and a grandchild.

Survivors include two daughters, Florence Huskey, Strawberry, and Carolyn Clinton, Walnut Ridge; three sons, William Black, Hot Springs, Jack Black, Jacksonville, and George Black, Mobile, Ala.; two brothers, Ralph Dragoo and Lawrence Dragoo, both of Kentucky; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral is today at 10 a.m. in the House-Gregg Chapel with Harold Russell officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery, near Strawberry, under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
