Monroe Laner, 71, of Fayetteville, died at Sparks Memorial Hospital in Fort Smith following an extended illness. Born in Rogers, he was the son of Julius J. and Alice Laner, was graduated from Rogers High School and attended the University of Arkansas. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, a member of Central United Methodist Church, the American Legion and Washington Historical Society. He was co-owner of Laner Bros. Shoe Store in Fayetteville and a retired real estate salesman.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Emele Laner of the home; three sons, Jerry Laner of Cincinnati, Ohio, James Colwell of Atlanta; Ga. and Philip Colwell of Fayetteville; two borthers, Carl Laner of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Otis Capching of Walnut Ridge; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday in Central United Methodist Church, Fayetteville, with Dr. Joel Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery under the direction of Moore's Chapel. Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
