MELBOURNE — Doris Lucy Kelley Mitchell, 88, of Melbourne died Monday, April 16, 2012.
Born April 6, 1924, in Duke, Mo., she was the daughter of Clarence Mitchell Kelley and Leftie Lucille Burnett Kelley. She was united in marriage to Claudis Steve Mitchell on Dec. 29, 1942, in Waynesville, Mo.
She was a homemaker and was employed by Boeing Aircraft in Melbourne, retiring after 21 years of employment. After retirement, she was an active member of the local United Auto Workers Chapter. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed hunting, fishing, looking for wild mushrooms with family and friends and yard sales. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Jeffery Mitchell of Melbourne; two daughters, Gertie Hively of Cushman and Linda McAnally of Sage; three sisters, Irma Kohensky of Lebanon, Mo., Mabel Wilson of Duke, Mo., and Bonnie Hernandez of Waynesville; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dean Carl Mitchell; an infant daughter, Doris Marie Mitchell; three brothers; three sisters; and her husband, Claudis Steve Mitchell.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Mike Conyers and Wayne Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Fifty-Six Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Jones, Willis Morehead, Hearly Morehead, Joe Jones, Kenny Morrison and Bill Wright.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Robert Walton, Jimmy Mitchell, Dennis Mitchell and members of the Local United Auto Workers.
