SHADEL, Martha Elenor NOEL - Mrs. Martha E. Shadel died Monday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.W. Homan, in the southwest part of town. She had been ill for some time and her death had been expected for several days. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the residence at four o'clock and were conducted by Rev. W.B. Holland. Martha Elenor Noel was born in Tennessee July 14th, 1816. She was educated at Knoxville, Tenn. and for a few years taught school. Early in the 40's she, with her mother and other members of the family, emigrated to Henry Co., Iowa, settling at Derdsville, now known as Merrimac. There she met and married Henry Shadel Jan. 1846. They moved to Grant Co., Wis. the same year, settling on the place that was their home for twenty-five years, raising a family of six children, all of whom are now living. In {illegible} they returned to Iowa, living there until 1888 when they moved to Rogers, Ark. which has since been her home. She was left a widow in 1893. She became a Christian at the age of sixteen years, joining the Methodist Church and living a long, active and useful life. She died July 18th at the age of 88 years and 4 days. All but one of her children were present at her funeral, Samuel, the oldest, who lives in Colorado.
