Elvira B. Barnes, 96, of Clarksville, Ark., was called home to be with her Lord on Sept. 19, 2008, while residing in the Countryside Manor nursing home.

She was born to the late George and Rosa Grohs at Dundee, Iowa on Aug. 14, 1912. She was married to Roger Barnes on July 6, 1935, at Kenosha, Wis.

She and her husband farmed at Sturtevant, Wis. for 30 years. She tended the farm, her garden and her lovely flowers.

In 1973, they retired and moved to Hartman, Ark., farming until 1996 when she moved to Clarksville.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and an active member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the choir. She also was an active member of the AARP and the Senior Citizen's Activity Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; father, George Grohs; mother, Rosa Grohs; two brothers, Raymond Grohs and Marcine Grohs; nephew Kurt Fritzsche and many uncles and aunts.

Surviviors include nephew Bruce Grohs and his wife Sandra from Sparta, Ga.; niece Barbara Heinicka, Pinellas, Fla.; godchild, Ruth Gunther, Racine, Wisc.; many cousins and second cousins in Wisconsin, Florida, California and Iowa and many friends.

The funeral was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, Sept. 22, at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Herb Swanson officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Bruce Grohs, Don Langdon, Edmund Drittler, Leo Kneoernschild, Jeff Hass and Jerry Holman.

Honary pallbearers were members of Grace Lutheran Church.

Visitation was held Sunday, Sept. 21, at Hardwicke Funeral Home.
