Stacy Looney, 80, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, in Springdale. He was born March 23, 1924, in Vinita, Okla., the son of Stacy Grover and Fannie Grobe Looney. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Springdale and a member of the Springdale Kiwanis Club for 50 years, serving as president in 1959. He played football for the Vinita Hornets and graduated from high school in 1942. He was a world War II veteran, U.S. paratrooper 1942-1945, watched the flag being raised on Iwo Jima and injured in battle on that island. He came home with a Purple Heart and several other medals. He played foothill for the University of Arkansas 1946-1950, graduated with a bachelor's degree in science education and later received a master's degree from the university. In 1951, he coached boys high school football, girls basketball in Mountain Home and was a Razorback Freshman Football Coach 1952-54. He worked for First Pyramid Life Insurance 1955-1995 and was a Million Dollar Round Table Lifetime Member. He was on the Sprirgdale School Board for seven years, serving as president, and was also a justice of the peace, coached Kids Day Football for several years and was involved with Babe Ruth Baseball for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Peggy Ann Watkins Looney of the home; his daughters, Mary Ann Heath and husband Earl, Linda Korpella and husband Ron and Susan Looney and David Hagar; his son, Stacy Looney II and wife Lee Ann; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Judy Van Hoose and the Rev. Louis Dewett officiating. Burial will be in Bluff Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 7, 2004, at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Jerry Dorman, Eddie Bradford, Sonny Henson, Marvin Stendel, Sam Grobe and Paul Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Roberts, David McKinney, Rusty McKinney, Suzie McKinney Alain, Mary McKinney, Gene George, Richard Vanhook, Desiree D. Good, Bob Johnson, Coach Norm DeBriyn and Charles Boling. Also serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Springdale Kiwanis Club.

Memorials may he made to the Circle of Life Hospice, 610 E. Emma Ave., Springdale, 72764, and First United Methodist Church of Springdale.

Peggy Anne Watkins Looney, age 77, of Springdale died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, in Springdale. She was born April 28, 1928, in Springdale, the daughter of
Walter A. and Thelma Jackson Watkins. She was a graduate of Springdale High School and represented Springdale in the queen's contest of the American Royal Show in Kansas City, Mo. She attended the University of Arkansas and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She graduated from nursing school and worked at Spingdale Memorial Hospital in the emergency room for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Walter A. Watkins II; and her husband, Stacy Looney, who died June 5, 2004.

Mrs. Looney is survived by one son, Stacy Looney II, and wife Leeann of Columbia, Mo.; three daughters, Mary Anne Heath and husband Earl, Linda Korpella and Susan Looney-Hagar and husband David, all of Springdale; one sister, Mary Jane Dortch of Eureka Springs; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale with the Rev. Stanton Cram officiating with burial in Bluff Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Davis, Sam Grobe, Jim Jackson, Tony Fullmer, David Hagar and Earl Heath. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Dedmon, Joe Roberts, David McKinney, Rusty McKinney, Suzie McKinney Allain, Mary McKinney, Gene George, Richard Vanhook, Desiree Good, Ryan Vaught, David Heath, Daniel Heath and Dr. Jerry Dorman.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, with family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

The family requests memorials may be made to the Friendship Baptist Church of Springdale or the Circle of Life Hospice.
