Mary “Evelyn” Walden, age 87, of Rose Bud, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2010, at the White County Medical Center in Searcy. Born in Chocalota, Alabama, on October 18, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Clayton and Lois Lucille Brown Clark.
Evelyn worked as a one of Rosie’s Riverters during World War II, at Bethlehem Steel-shipyard in Alemedia, CA. She also worked as a cook for many years. She was a member of the Mt. Bethel Free Will Baptist Church at Rose Bud.
Her husband Bill J. Walden, Jr. preceded her in death on February 11, 2001. Evelyn was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Dewayne Heffington; two sisters, Eloise Sipsy and Virginia Guido; and one grandson, Justin Tyler Head.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Denise Walden and her husband, Mickey Bentley, and Sheila Head and her husband, Terry, all of Rose Bud; two brothers, Fredie Edington of Livermore, California, and Jesse Clayton Clark, Jr. of Chico, California; one sister, Gladys Abston of Red Bluff, California; four grandchildren, Angie Mix and her husband, Greg, Sammie Hudspeth and her husband, Tracy, Jeremy Head and his wife, Heather, and John Ryan Head and his wife, Brandi; six great grandchildren, Jeff Mix, Kailey Head, Garrett Hudspeth, Addison Hudspeth, McKinley Head, and Camden Tyler Head; one great-great grandchild, Jackson Connor Mix; and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 21, at Olmstead Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 22, at Mt. Bethel Free Will Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Craig Batts officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Bethel Cemetery. Jeremy Head, John Ryan Head, Jeff Mix, Greg Mix, Tracy Hudspeth, and Rickey Hare will serve as pallbearers.
Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home.
