RODGERS, Mary J. ALDEN - Mrs. Mary J. Rodgers, wife of the late A.M. Rodgers, died Friday, April 13 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T.T. Netherton, near Maysville. Mrs. Rodgers was 90 years of age and had been a resident of Benton county for 61 years. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon with interment in the family plot in the Bethel cemetery south of Gravette. The funeral was largely attended. Many of the older residents of the western part of the county being present. She is survived by four sons, P.A. Rodgers of Waco, Texas; Philo and Lanier Rodgers of Decatur and Sterling Rodgers of Texas; also by one daughter, Mrs. Tom Netherton of Maysville. Miss Mary J. Alden was born in Claiborne county, Louisiana where she grew to womanhood. In 1853 at the age of sixteen she was married to Alexander M. Rodgers who was born in North Carolina in 1824. The family moved to Benton county in 1867 and located mid-way between Gravette and Decatur where he engaged in farming. He was very successful and became a large land owner. The property is still owned by his sons. When Arkansas was admitted into the union as a state Mr. Rodgers was one of the delegates that helped frame the constitution of Arkansas. He died in 1886. His father, Seth Rodgers, was a Revolutionary soldier. Mrs. Alden Rodgers' parents were born in New York and she was a descendant of John and Priscilla Alden, made famous in Longfellow's poem, the Courtship of Miles Standish.
