Mary Pearl Mawdsley Cox (82) of Plant departed this life surrounded by family July 4th, 2007 at her home on Elba Road following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mary was born June 24, 1925, at Chester, AR to the late William and Ruth Widener Mawdsley. Mary worked as an Army post supply clerk and a shipyard worker in California during WWII prior to graduating from Clinton High School in 1945. On July 21,1945, she was united in marriage to LD Cox. Co-workers may remember Mary as a machine operator at the Clinton Climatic plant. She was a member of the Plant Baptist Church. Mary most enjoyed being outdoors and her hobbies included horseback riding, fishing, hiking, gardening, and spending time with a long succession of cats.
Mary is survived by her husband, LD, and two children, Ronny (wife Dottie) Cox of Greenbrier and Teresa (husband Lee) Gates of Clinton. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Glenna (husband Chris) Laymon and Russell (wife Ashley) Cox of Greenbrier, Jason (wife Tawny), April and Abigail Gates of Clinton, and five great-grandchildren. She is further survived by three older sisters, Reba Beall of San Antonio, TX, Virginia Roddy of Canyon, TX, and Mabel Haefeker of Springfield, MO, as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Teddy Mawdsley, and two sisters, Irene Vasper and Louise Slusher.
Funeral services for Mary Pearl Cox will be held 2 pm Saturday, July 7th at the Plant Baptist Church, 4897 Highway 110, Plant. David WiIHams, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Plant Cemetery.
