DAVIS, John F. - John F. Davis, one of the old settlers of this section, died Sunday afternoon at five o'clock of bronchial trouble and general debility at his home three miles southeast of Sonora. The remains were interred in the family burying ground on the farm Monday afternoon at three o'clock under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity. The deceased would have been 78 years of age had he lived until next Sunday and was born in Bedford county, Tenn. He came to Washington county in the fall of 1832 with his parents and has resided here continuously since that time except for two and a half years he was in the army, having been a member of the 1st Arkansas Infantry. He had been married twice, his first wife being Miss Jane Harris, and as a result of this union one child was born to them, George Davis, who is now a resident of Springdale. His first wife having died he was later on united in marriage to Mrs. Mary J. Kinsey, who died only a few months ago, and to them were born four children, one of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are: Charity Belle, wife of Barney Darnay, living near Goshen; M.J. Davis, wife of J.M. Davis, who lives on a farm adjoining that of the deceased; G.L. Davis, living near Sonora. Since the death of his wife Mr. Davis has continued to reside on the old home place where he had lived for more than seventy years, his daughter keeping house for him. He was a good citizen, having the confidence and respect of all who knew him.
