BARNETT, J.J. - J.J. Barnett died of consumption at his home in this city on Friday forenoon at 11 o'clock September 1. Mr. Barnett had been confined to his bed by the disease for months and his death had been expected for some time. Funeral services were held on Sunday morning at the Christian church under the auspices of the Rogers Masonic Lodge No. 460. A number of Masons were present from neighboring lodges. Reverend Jordan preached the sermon. Friends of the deceased and his family followed the remains to the cemetery. The following obituary was handed us by a friend: J.J. Barnett was born in Hickory county, Mo. Oct. 12th, 1851. During the Civil War he moved to Indiana and in 1872 was united in marriage to Georgianna French. He resided there until 1881 when he moved to Benton Co., Ark. Eight children have blessed his home, five of whom with his wife, survive him. In 1891 he moved to the city of Rogers. While residing here he has occupied several positions of honor in the town and county. In 1883 he and his wife professed faith in Jesus Christ, uniting with the Primitive Baptist church. About the same time he united with the Masonic Lodge, which action was very distasteful to his church. To settle the matter he quietly withdrew from the church. He continued a faithful member of the Lodge until the time of his death.

BARNETT, Mrs. J.J. - The body of Mrs. J.J. Barnett, who died Friday evening at seven o'clock at her home in Kansas City, was brought to Rogers Sunday for interment. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Dillon. Interment was in the local cemetery. There are now seven graves in the Barnett lot, Mr. and Mrs. Barnett, four daughters and one son. A number of years ago the family was very well known here, Mr. Barnett having served for several years as city marshal and also as township constable. They had formerly lived at Cross Hollows and came here about the time the town was started. Consumption seized the family and the death of Mr. Barnett and the five children were from that cause. Mr. Barnett died eleven years ago and two years later Mrs. Barnett and the remaining children went to Kansas City where they have since made their home. The remaining members of the family are Mrs. Nellie Dainwood, Jesse J. Barnett and W.E. Barnett. The first two accompanied the body of their mother to Rogers and spent several days here with friends. Mrs. Barnett was born in Warwick county, Indiana and was about 55 years old. Death was the result of heart failure and the children found her dead in the kitchen when they returned home from work Friday night. Death was quite unexpected as she had been in fairly good health. Mrs. Barnett was a hard working woman and is kindly remembered by the older residents of our town who knew her when she was having trials with illness and death such as few are called upon to face. The daughter and sons have the sympathy of our people in their bereavement.

Miss Maud Barnett died early Tuesday morning at her home on Third street, this city. Miss Barnett was eighteen years old. Her death was caused by consumption. Funeral services were held yesterday morning at the Baptist church and were conducted by Rev. Holloway. The death of Miss Barnett was the sixth death in the Barnett family during the past seven years and all were caused by the same dread disease- consumption. The first death was that of the eldest daughter, Mrs. James Vandergriff. Then a year or two later followed in quick succession the death of Misses Clyde and Maggie Barnett, both young ladies. The father, J. J. Barnett, died in August, 1899 and the oldest son, Sidney Barnett, died only a few months ago. Mrs. Barnett and three young children, two of whom are now in Kansas, are all that remain of the family.
