*Sallie was born to Henry Branson Elliott and Martha Birdsong Marsh Elliott in Asheboro, Randolph County, North Carolina. She moved with her family in 1859 at age 7 to Springfield, Missouri by way of a wagon train. She met and married Alexander Stillman Carrel from Alabama. In the newspaper it was stated that they left Springfield right after the wedding ceremony 30 May 1871 to begin their life in Selma, Alabama.
