Verna Lee Brown, 82, of Hamburg died Saturday, December 30, 2006, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center. A native of Ashley County, she lived in Chicago, IL, for 30 years and retired from Wells Fargo. She was a member of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Survives are one son, Edward and wife LaTonya Brown of Yorktown; two brothers, T. J. Peppers of Chicago and Bill and wife Louise Peppers of Topeka, KS; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Brown; her parents, Ed and Minnie Peppers; one brother, Jimmy Peppers; and two sisters, Clemmie Davis and Odell Peppers.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 6, in the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Willie R. Taylor officiating. Pallbearers were Curtis Tolliver, Lawrence Booker, Earl Jacob, Edward Brown, Jr., Curtis Smith and Billy Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Willie Booker, Robert Robinson, Von Wade, R. D. Morgan, Dwight Tippie and C. T. Lewis.

Burial followed services at the Johnson Memorial Cemetery with arrangements by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
