Daughter of Henry N & Della Slayter

Mrs. Fern Pine Newman, 55, of Ventura, Calif., and a former resident of El Dorado, died Thursday in Ventura after a lengthy illness. Born July 10, 1913 in El Dorado, she was the daughter of Henry N. and Della Sorrells Slayter. She had been a resident of California for the past six years, moving there from El Dorado. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Ray Newman of Ventura; two sons, Kennth Pine of El Dorado, and Sgt. Eric Pine of the United States Air Force, Phillipines; a daughter, Mrs. Earlene Lowery of Winfield, La.; a brother, J. C. Slayter of El Dorado; and three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Murphy, Mrs. Bertha Erwin and Miss Frances Slayter, all of Ojai, Calif; and her mother. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Young's Chapel with the Rev. Tom E. Bray officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery. (El Dorado Times - November 1, 1968)
