Hattie Mitchell Newby, 85 of Belleville, Ill., died Aug. 18, 2004, at her residence.
Born Dec. 20, 1918, in Antelope, Kan., she was a retired engraver for Schaeffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, Iowa. She also was a member of Village Bible Church in Cherokee Village.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Newby; a daughter, Joyce Fenton; her parents William and Dessie Hill Mitchell; four brothers Mike Mitchell, Arnold Mitchell, Denver Mitchell, Johnie Mitchell; and a sister, Virdie Houtz; and a grandson, Dean Fenton.
Survivors include her children Lee (Mary) Burwinkel of Naples, Fla., Barbara (Stan) Robison and Keith Burwinkel, all of Belleville; a brother, Henry (Juanita) Mitchell of Montrose, Iowa; grandchildren Steve (Denise) Burwinkel and Jeanette (Tom) Carthy; and great-grandchildren Douglas Burwinkel and Colin Burwinkel.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Family Hospice.
The funeral was an informal service held at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville with the Rev. Patrick O'Neal officiating. By her request her body was donated to St. Louis University School of Medicine.
