Sarah Ann HERMAN

Cogbill Cemetery
Cross County,
Arkansas

Sarah was the oldest child of Jim Sheridan and Catherine Jane Murray Sheridan. Sarah's parents were born in Ireland. Sarah was born in Omaha, Nebraska. Jim Sheridan moved to Wynne when Sarah was about 3 years old. Mr. Sheridan and his brothers worked for a time for the MoPac Railroad, but Mr. Sheridan later ran a dray company, delivering freight from the many trains to local businesses. This dray company was the forerunner of the later REA Express. Sarah had one brother, Willie, father of Mary Catherine Sheridan Moore. She had three sisters: Jane Hammett, mother of Doris Kate and Dolly Jane; Grace Olive, mother of Murray Ann Fisher; and Naomi Sheridan Collier. Naomi had no children. Sarah and John lived in Wynne where he worked for the railroad and she kept the home and worked as a nurse's aide to Dr. Stuart. Several years after John Herman died in 1929, Sarah married Walter. W. Mathis a railroad man for N.C. & St. L. Railroad, and moved to Bruceton, TN, then to Paducah, Ky. After Walter died, Sarah came back to Wynne to live with her son, Johnny James Herman, in the home she had built when she first married, located at 703 Wilson, Wynne. At this time, 2007, Sarah's grandson, James Tennyson Herman and wife, Lynn, are living in the home.
