Neva Ruth Baskins, 102, born in Bienville. LA, September 24, 1908, died February 2, 2011. She was an assisted living resident at Taylor Home in Jacksonville, FL. She trained at St. Joseph Hospital in Hot Springs, AR, graduating in 1930 as a Registered Nurse. She was the first County Nurse in Perry County, Arkansas during the 1930's. She continued in her nursing career for the next fifty years, mostly as a private duty nurse in Arkansas and Michigan. She moved to Jacksonville in 1990 and lived at Cypress Village for 17 years, volunteering in many roles. Her original Nursing Textbooks were donated to the UNF Brooks College of Health. She was a lifetime member of the National Federation of Garden Clubs. She won several awards for flower arrangements. She was an Eastern Star. She was preceded In death by her husband of 40 years, Buryl Tecumseh Baskins. Survivors are daughters Patricia Ruth Metz (Harry) of St. Augustine, and Joan Katherine McGuigan, of Jacksonville; sister Imogene Sullivan, five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, several nephews and nieces. A private ceremony will be held at a later date. Final interment will be in Hardy, Arkansas. Donations may be made in her name to Taylor Foundation/Taylor Home, 6601 Chester Avenue, Jacksonville, FL.
