Ernest James Campbell was the son of James Wesley and Rosa Belle (Wasson) Campbell and was born and raised around the Mobley community in Sharp County. His siblings: Earl, Bertha, Opal, and Cleo. His children: Kent Anthony, Gail Ernestine, and Janny Sue.
Ernest served as a member of the CCC in the 1930s, traveling Arkansas and to California to build parks and other projects. He married Iva Jewel Kent on April 12, 1941.
He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Cave City. He was a decorated WWII veteran, receiving the Purple Heart for wounds received in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge, Dec. 1944. He and his wife, Iva Jewel, operated Campbell's Mercantile on Main St. from 1953 until retirement in 1974. He loved the place and people of Cave City.
