SPRINGDALE — Sam R. Maxwell, 85, of Springdale died Feb. 9, 2004, at his home. He was born Nov. 2, 1918, in Kingston to Pete and Mertie Carlock Maxwell. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 26 years of employment. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Springdale and the American Legion Post 230 in Kingston.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Irene Bolinger Maxwell of the home; one son, Sgt. 1st Class James D. and wife Lequita Guess Maxwell of Fort Campbell, Ky.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m, today at Friendship Cemetery in Springdale with the Rev. Charlie Foster officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Army.

Arrangements are by Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville.

Pallbearers will be Scott Bolinger, Rob Bolinger, Richard Bolinger, H.L. Parson, Dale Neil and Tim Knowles.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Maxwell, Brian Parson, Jack Hathorn, Joe Bolinger and Robert Burge.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Springdale.
