*Obituary
Rogers Democrat
May 16 1912

{from Central) Died, at her home at Garfield May 8th, Mrs. Ermin Shepherd. “Grandma” Shepherd, as we all knew her, was born in Jackson Co., Mo. Feb. 28, 1830 and was married to John Rider. To them were born 5 children, 3 of whom still survive her. In the spring of 1868 she was again married to J.F. Shepherd and moved to Benton Co., Ark. with her husband in 1874, where she lived until death. Mr. Shepherd died in 1893. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church in Missouri but coming to Arkansas there was no church close so she joined the Freewill Baptist church in which she remained until her death. She was a devoted Christian; always ready to do something for humanity, a loving mother, and a true friend, and one who was loved by all who knew her. Dropsy was the cause of her death. Two of her children attended the funeral, Mrs. Sallie Hays and G.C. Rider. Another son, Buck, lives in Colorado and was unable to get here. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F.M. Seamster of Avoca and the body was placed in its last resting place awaiting the sounding of the trumpet. The bereaved children have the deepest sympathy of the entire community. She leaves several grand children and several great grand children besides a host of friends.
