Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Ann Simms were conducted Saturday, June 13 at Buttram’s Chapel, two and one-half miles east of Pea Ridge. Mrs. Simms’ death occurred at the home of her son, Bryan Simms, at Hobart, OkIa. June 9th. She was 78 years and four days of age. When a child she moved to Illinois with her parents and lived there until she was 36 years of age when she moved to Iowa Park, Texas where she met and married Dr. R.S. Simms Oct. 8, 1890. To this union four children were born, all of whom are now living: Louis of Chickasha, Ok., Mrs. Lucinda Kern of Mountain View community; Leonard, Gotoba, Ok., also Bryan and O.B. Simms of Hobart, Ok. Her last days were spent with her children at Hobart. Dr. Simms passed on in 1910. Mrs. Simms is also survived by eight grandchildren and three step-children, Mrs. Belle Love, Childress, Texas; John E. of New Mexico and Robert of Dumas, Texas, her sisters, Mrs. Lula Warner, San Clemente, Calif., Mrs. Belle Crites, Iowa Park, Texas and Mrs. Nettie Van Wya of Los Angeles, Calif. besides many other relatives. When a young lady she united with the Christian Church in Illinois remaining faithful to its fellowship until her marriage when she united with the Methodist Church. Dr. and Mrs. Simms formerly lived at Buttram Chapel community, moving away in 1906. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.C. Hutton, pastor of the Pea Ridge M.E. Church and burial made at Buttram’s Chapel cemetery.
