Mrs. Mattie C. Lael
Mrs. Mattie L. Lael, 81, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Virgil Butler, 706 Tennessee Avenue; after an illness of two years.
Mrs. Lael was born in 1869, the daughter of Doc S. and Martha Tiner, in Lincoln County where she was reared and received her education.
She was married in 1904 in Star City to the late Walter Lael. She had made her home with her daughter in Pine Bluff since 1942.
She was a member of the Baptist Church.
In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Virgil Butler, she is survived by two sons, Doc Butler of Pine Bluff and J. Lael of San Francisco, Calif., four grandchildren. Mrs. Herman Calloway and John Butler of Pine Bluff, Mrs. S. M. Jennings of Perthshire, Miss.; and Michael Lael of San Francisco, Calif.; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James Tiner of Star City and Mac Tiner of Angelesido, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Butler Church, near Star City with Rev. Carl Overton, pastor at the First Baptist Church of Star City, in charge.
Burial will be in Butler Cemetery with South Funeral Home in charge.
Active pallbearers will be; Andy Ratterree, Curtis Ratterree, Virgil Ratterree, Bud Rice, Floyd Meek and Earnest Logue.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert Matthews, Victor Felley, Fred Grumbles, J. W. Wimbley, John O'Neal, Tom Cogbill, Hollin Carner, Bob Steed, Willie Crow, Billy Hellums, G. D. Smith Sr., C. K. Nickles, Fred Nickle, Rucal Mathews and Russo Mathews.
