OBITUARIES
Austin

BLYTHEVILLE -- Buford Lee Austin, 90, of Blytheville died Monday, March 29, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville.

Born in Scotts Hill, Tenn., he was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He worked as a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Zula Jane Rushing Austin; one son, Hershel Austin of Minnetonka, Minn.; one daughter, Joyce Cotton of Blytheville; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Buford Lee Austin Jr., his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Cobb Funeral Home chapel in Blytheville, with the Revs. Allan Eakin and Larry Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. A second visitation will follow the graveside service at Cobb Reception Home, 700 West Main St., Blytheville.

Davis

Ora Lee Davis, 94, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, March 24, at her residence.

She was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir.

Survivors include four sons, Richard Hampton Jr. and Joseph Hampton, both of Flint, Mich., Johnny Hampton of San Pablo, Calif., and Logan Hampton Sr. of Pine Bluff; four daughters, Sadie Fulmore of Compton, Calif., Anna Riggins of Pine Bluff, Bernice Smith of Richmond, Calif., and Donna Davis Reed of Jonesboro; two sisters, Elnora Pile of Goulds, Fla., and Loma Condra of St. Louis; 32 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 310 North Main St., with the Rev. Herman Lewellen officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Anthony Funeral Home of West Memphis.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Dudley

PIGGOTT -- Bettie Jane Dudley, 71, of Piggott died Monday, March 29, at her residence.

She was a lifelong resident of Piggott and worked as a bookkeeper for Piggott Mortuary-Irby Funeral Home. She was a member of Piggott First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir.

Survivors include one son, Michael Dudley of Rector; three daughters, Rebecca Dudley of Piggott, Letitia Washburn of Conway and Robin O'Dell of Pollard; her mother, Mary Hill Cooper of Rector; one brother, Jerry Cooper of Jonesboro; one sister, Euvila Floyd of Sumner, Wash.; and seven grandchildren, Dana Harmon, Micha Dudley, Karissa Dudley, Colton Dudley, Heather O'Dell, Holly O'Dell and Sheri Washburn.

She was preceded in death by and her father, Onnie Cooper, and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Piggott First Baptist Church, with Loy Colver and Kevin Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector under the direction of Irby Funeral Home at Piggott.

Active pallbearers will be Keith Hill, Barry Hill, Rick Cooper, Jeff Brrewer, Burt Lewis and Harry Niewald Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will include Harry Niewald Sr., Bo Brandon and Wes Harmon.

Visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Evins

NEWPORT -- Paul J. Evins, 68, of Newport died Tuesday, March 30, in Newport.

Born at Pennington, he attended Newport High School and graduated from Harding Academy and from Harding College with a degree in Bible and history. He attended graduate school at Memphis State University and served as a minister for more than 50 years. He was a member of Cherokee Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Allison Evins of Newport; a son, Shawn Evins of Newport; a daughter, Charlotte Evins Swann of Jonesboro; and six grandchildren, Allison Evins, Trey Swann, Zac Evins, Katie Swann, Clayton Swann and Caroline Swann.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buster Evins and Linnie Tate Evins, and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Jackson's Newport Funeral Home, with Ivie Powell, Jimmy Young, J.L. May and Llano Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Kyle Sanders, Tom Long, Frank Thompson, Billy Tate, Shelley Evins, Maurice Odom and Mark McGee.

Honorary pallbearers will include Rhett Maris, Jerry Hulett and Herb Foushee.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Layer

CORNING -- Funeral services for Thelma Gertrude Layer, 89, of Corning, who died Sunday, March 28, at Corning Health Care, have been scheduled for 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Irby Funeral Home in Rector.

Jimmy Anderson will officiate, and burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector.

Pallbearers will include Alvin Foster, Albert Foster, Delmar Foster, Andrew Davis, John Layer and Stan Layer.

Born in Leonard, she was a homemaker and a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Rex Layer of Oaktown, Ind., and Roy Layer of Jackson, Mo.; two brothers, Junior Owens and Sterling Owens; two sisters, Duma Owens and Anna Mae Owens; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Layer; her parents, Richard Owens and Lela Glass Owens; and one grandchild.

IMBODEN -- Cecil Malone, 80, of Imboden died Tuesday, March 30, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.
He was born in Leachville and was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Kati Lillard Malone of the home; three sons, Gary Malone, Ricky Malone and Ronnie Malone, all of Annieville; two daughters, Brenda Hibbard of Imboden and Gail Johnson of Annieville; three brothers, Herbert Malone of Annieville, Clyde Malone of Fisher and Bud Malone of Wilson; two sisters, Lucille McDonald of Fisher and Nadine French of McGee; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Leona Lansford Malone, a sister and three brothers.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at Annieville, with Jerry Clements and Harold Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home of Pocahontas.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
