CRESCENT CITY, Calif. — Albert Edgar Norwood, 82, died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at his home in Crescent City.
Albert was born Oct. 8, 1925, in Lowell, son of Thomas and Ruth Norwood. He married Helen Inez Clark on Jan. 14, 1962. They resided in Antioch, Calif., before moving to Northwest Arkansas, where they lived for many years. They then retired to Jackson, Calif, in 1989 and then moved on to Austin, Texas, in 2003. Finally Al moved to Crescent City last year where he resided with his daughter and son-in-law, Victoria and John Lentz.
Al had various careers in his active life; he served our country in the military and was in Korea during the occupation after World War II. After his medical discharge from the service, he owned and operated Green's TV and Appliance in Antioch, Calif. In 1972, he and Helen moved their family to Lowell, where they opened Norwood TV and Stereo, which they operated for several years. He was also elected mayor of Lowell during this time. When he sold the business in 1979, he got more involved in public service and ran for Benton County judge. He was elected and re-elected for five terms. After retiring, Al got his real estate license and worked as a real estate agent/broker for Jackson Realty in California.
Al was a man of deep faith. His life centered on his family, his church; Al was kind and generous and never had a bad word to say about anyone. His family and friends will miss him deeply, though we know that he is now in a better place.
Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen; his parents, Thomas and Ruth Norwood; brothers, Thomas, Joe and Jack and sister Naomi.
Al is survived by his daughters, Victoria Lentz of Crescent City, Jaime Pisaruck of Seattle, Wash., and Deanna Norwood of Austin, Texas, as well as brothers, Gene and Miles Norwood. He is also remembered by seven grandchildren, one great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Rollins Funeral Home, 1401 W. Hudson Road in Rogers.
We will also have a graveside service at Rogers Cemetery immediately following the memorial.
Afterward, Mr. Norwood's daughters will host a reception at the Hyatt Place Hotel, 4610 W. Walnut St., in Rogers. All who knew Albert are invited and encouraged to attend.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers.
